Matthew I. Euzarraga is a multimedia journalist with more than a decade of experience across the media industry, including radio, social media marketing, and public relations. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism and has spent more than five years in New York City, the nation’s top journalism market.

 

He is a digital reporter at PIX11 News, covering breaking news, enterprise stories, and issues affecting communities across the five boroughs. Since joining PIX11 in March 2023, he has covered crime, public health, housing, education, politics, culture, and the everyday stories that shape life in the Big Apple.

 

His work has also appeared in The New York Daily News, TheBody.com, Fusion Magazine, and The U.S. Sun.

 

At The Daily News, Euzarraga started as a runner, then quickly moved into reporting on crime, politics, Roe v. Wade’s overturning, and other issues affecting New Yorkers. He also earned his first front-page story, covering the deaths of an Albanian actor and his wife, who fell from a Bronx apartment building, shocking the local community.

 

A native of El Paso, Texas, Matthew earned a bachelor's degree in multimedia journalism, with a minor in film studies, from the University of Texas at El Paso. There, he contributed to Borderzine and conducted humanities research. He later moved to New York City to attend CUNY's Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, where scholarships from the Hearst Foundation, News Corporation, and the Herald Tribune Scholarship Fund funded his graduate studies. During graduate school, he interned at Crain's New York Business.

 

Matthew is passionate about accountability reporting, public-interest journalism, arts and culture, science, and stories highlighting the people and communities that make New York unique. 

 

His favorite stories to cover, though, are about animals or people helping animals. He also enjoys covering breaking news and writing about events happening around New York City.
